Grey released her debut album under her new name in 2013, after almost 3 years of promotion. Between the end of the album promotion and the releasing of "Cannonball", Skylar worked with several artists as David Guetta, Nicki Minaj and Eminem. She has also worked in many soundtracks since Fifty Shades of Grey to Furious 7.

This song samples Cher's 1966 classic hit single " Bang Bang (My Baby Shot Me Down) ," which peaked at #2 in the US and #3 in the UK. It was famously covered by Nancy Sinatra in the same year. "Bang Bang (My Baby Shot Me Down)" has since been borrowed from in all manner of creative ways by modern day producers.
